1929 Bridge Trail Access
!!Construction April 9 & 10, 2011!!

The artist's rendition to the right is one option for the construction of a pedestrian access from the '29 Bridge pedestrian walkway (the rail and bottom of the walkway are seen in the upper right of the picture) to the existing surface of the Elidge Ditch maintenance access below. The pedestrian access pictured is a series of switch-backs intended to create a more gentle grade which would also allow for the transfer of bicycles from the upper street surface to the maintenance access below. The Elidge Ditch maintenance access includes a woodchip surface (one of ATOS' first projects) currently used by locals and the City of Aztec Parks Dept. ATOS has dubbed the bridge the '29 Bridge in honor of the year the bridge was constructed. If you are a local and are having trouble figuring out where the '29 Bridge is, it is also locally known as the "Money Saving" Bridge, a moniker used in the advertising campaign of a local Automobile Dealership.

The construction of this pedestrian/bicycle access will be a connecting point via existing sidewalks and bicycle lanes for Aztec's Historic Downtown area and the two largest parks in Aztec, Riverside Park and Hartman Park/Sports Complex. This access will reduce the need for pedestrains and bicyclists to cross Highway 516/Aztec Blvd. - the four lane throughfare through the middle of town.

The image on the left is an actual photo of the area depicted in the artist's rendition above. In its current condition, this steep grade is currently used by area youth to get from the streets and sidewalks above, to the trails and river below.

Riverside Park Performance Stage

The City of Aztec's Lodger's Tax Advisory Board (LTAB) is focusing on the addition of a Performance Stage in Riverside Park. This proposed facility would create additional opportunities for performing arts as well as amplified music and other performances. Currently, there is only one event of this type that is held in Riverside Park, The Animas River Blues Festival.

Above is an initial concept of what the Performance Stage might look like from the front.

Martinez Lane Invasives Clean Up

While this area at the end of Martinez Lane is not being developed and is currently not a top priority; when possible, invasive species clean up is squeezed in.

On the left, individuals are chipping Russian Olive and Salt Cedar for use as walking surfaces on the various trails being developed throughout the City. On the right you can see other equipment used to remove invasives trees by pulling them out of hte ground, roots and all.
